Regarding Scripture: Proverbs 10.3, 11, 16, 21, 24, 25, 28, 30, 32

Proverbs 10 opens with the words “The proverbs of Solomon” and contains many proverbs covering topics such as: sons, treasures, diligence, blessings, the lips, and the tongue.

Within this chapter’s collection of proverbs, the topic of righteous is mentioned nine times. Eight of the proverbs contrasted the righteous with the wicked, and in the ninth righteous is contrasted with fools.

What do the proverbs of chapter 10 have to say about the righteous:

  • 3 The LORD will not suffer the soul of the righteous to famish…
  • 11 The mouth of a righteous man is a well of life…
  • 16 The labour of the righteous tendeth to life…
  • 21 The lips of the righteous feed many…
  • 24 …the desire of the righteous shall be granted.
  • 25 …the righteous is an everlasting foundation.
  • 28 The hope of the righteous shall be gladness…
  • 29 The righteous shall never be removed…
  • 32 The lips of the righteous know what is acceptable…

From these verses we can see that God blesses the righteous but the righteous do not keep the blessings to themselves, they become a blessing to others. Perhaps the most poignant proverb is that the righteous know what is acceptable – to God the Father of lights who gives all good things.

We live in a world that does not care about righteousness, let alone the righteous. It would rather destroy the righteous. But the hope of the righteous truly is gladness, gladness found in heaven where all sorrows and tears are wiped away.
